Dirty or Clean

So this morning Jeff was having a conversation with Piper. We still can't tell what color her hair is going to be...I (Kelsey) and I think EVERYONE else is hoping it will be RED! So this conversation went as follows,

Jeff(talking to Piper): Are you going to be a dirty or clean redhead?
Me: What are you talking about?
Piper: Just looked cute
Jeff: You know freckles or not, you are a dirty redhead because you have freckles.
Me: (Laughing) I have never heard it put like that!

Jeff has been known to saying some really random funny things. Anyway I thought it was funny enough to share. Is that how everyone else describes redheads with freckles? DIRTY? : )

We spent christmas this year in colorado. There was snow and ice on the way up and we even had to wait a while for highway patrol to clear a jack-knifed semi of the road. I guess christmas feels a little more complete with snow.

We went for a hike out in the mountains nearby and saw some antlers sticking up. Reaching them we found out they were still attached to the skull.

So we went out of town for a week and shut the water off to the house. We had the garden on the automatic water drip system. So Plants – Water = Bad. We figured with 100+ degrees and no water meant a dead garden. So I scrapped the project since everything looked crispy. Well, the auto water system was never turned off and 2 months later a nice heap of grass grew in the 22’ x 22’ square. Going out to take care of the infestation made me focus on some odd looking weeds (from a distance) which weren't weeds at all. Following what turned out to be watermelon vine yielded a melon, then 2 then 3… After making a map the end result was 24 watermelons & 2 cantaloupe. We lost a few due to extreme ripeness they exploded into almost 2 pieces right where they were sitting. Boy, they sure were juicy. Now, to learn how to store it…

Ok So now that I am home all the time playing with my sweet Piper I tend to find myself some what bored, its been an adjustment going from working (miss you ladies, you know who you are) to being a full time mama! Dont get me wrong I love that I am able to stay home (thx to my hard working hubby, love ya much :). So I have found myself searching for things to do and have come upon all these blogs of creative crafts that these amazing gals come up with. I want to COPY them!! There are so many fun, easy and cheap things you can do to pass the time and get together with some gal pals! So I want to do a craft like each month, I had this idea a while back but we only got together once around halloween and made something...Anyway so if you are interested let me know, all you old friends out there that every time we see each other at random events say "lets do something" but never put it into action (im totally guilty) So this is my idea for October, so cute right??!!!

Baby Bassinet

No baby yet...13 days till my due date! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. Honest! I am totally ready to not feel fat and uncomfortable. Anyway so I totally made this bassinet, well the liner. I saw one similar at a baby store and it was love at first sight but it cost like $400 dollars. Yikes! So I decided I would just have to make it. I think it turned out really CUTE! I figure that Piper will sleep in our room for the first little bit so she totally needed a princess bassinet. I love it. Oh and another clever thing that I did was used my slip from my wedding dress underneath to make it full. Anyway, hopefully the next post will include pictures of baby Piper!

5 full weeks left till baby piper is due (or 14% left of the pregnancy, however you prefer). Boy does time fly. In the meantime we stay pretty busy with projects around the house. I mean do they ever stop, I think not. This is Jeff by the way. Kelsey is in the other room getting ready for the wedding reception we are going to. Lets see, updates…fathers and sons…garden…flower garden…cake machine…that's probably enough for now.

Fathers and sons – fun time as always. This year also included abnormally gigantic marshmallows. Just so happens to fit good in a potato gun too :). A few pics should illustrate:

Oh and that tape thing is something I did when I left work on Friday. My co-worker added the tissue to better resemble me. I have video of shooting full auto weapons so if you are interested in seeing them let me know.

Garden: Not much to report here other than it is thriving pretty good. I have 4 rows of corn, 1 row of carrots, 1/2 row of broccoli, 1/2 row of turnips, 1 row of watermelon/ 1/2 row of cantaloupes, and 1/2 row of potatoes. That's it for the garden.

Flower garden…its having some issues. Other than the panzies(ironic) nothing else has flowers. So its more of a flowerless garden.

Cake Machine. I can almost stop there because it is so cool. Its like the Brian Regan statement “well I walked on the moon”. Can you top that? No. You pretty much stick a sheet of whatever in it and it comes out whatever you programmed it to cut. Take this for example:

That is the company logo at work. The fire top and water bottom was cut by the machine. Still trying to figure out how to do the wind better. It will streamline cake making so much better. All I do is upload a picture to the comp, press the cut button and wallah! It appears magically in the same shape as it was on the computer just as fondant or some other edible product. It does have the capability to cut out cookies but it was going to take too long. So now I have learned the art of making cookie cutters! Not too difficult, just takes patience.

Because I’ll calling out for help. I know there are quite a few of you that have had your first child already. What is something that you learned that we be good to know with the first child? One thing for sure is I ready to share my excitement of the outdoors. I found this cool hiking pack online and bought it right away. It has a kid seat, changing table, sun & rain fly, bottle holders, baby handles, safety restraints. Its pretty sweet. Can’t wait to use it since mountain biking & shooting is out of the picture for quite some time.

This post wasn’t allowed until after the doctors appointment. For now all we know is a baby is in there, it gets better, has a heartbeat! It feels weird to know there is a new human being in the household. For now we will wait to see if its a boy or girl. Preferably a boy because we have an agreed name. Girl name might take a while on consensus. Tentative date – June 26th. We’ll have a better perspective on the 30th when we get the ultrasound done.

Mountain Biking @ Moab Utah

We recently went on a quick road trip to meet friends in Moab Utah, AKA – The Mountain Biking Mecca! I (Jeff) loved almost every minute of it. The few minutes I didn’t like was taking Kelsey back to the car. Its quite a bit more than she could handle. Another girl broke her foot right at the beginning so its not for beginners or anyone who isnt 100% confident. My friend Thomas Gardner came with us because it always more fun with multiple people. I had a nice spill at the beginning but it isn’t fun unless you bring something back with you. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Cakes!

Here are a few of the cakes I have done recently. The two smaller ones were birthday cakes. I call them mini fondant cakes. The other one has my husbands companies logo on it. I was just messing around with some homemade fondant and decided to attempt to mimic the logo. I just made my sister-in-laws birthday cake so I will put that pic up soon. I also am doing a baby shower cake this month and my nieces baptism cake. Its alot of fun and everytime I do a cake I learn something new!

Colorado!

Well we got to go to Colorado again!! It was yet again so much fun. All we do is play, quad, go to the mountains/cabin, play four wheeler tag, go to the alligator farm (yes there is an alligator farm in little Manassa, Colorado) weird I know, go to the sand dunes...well ya get the point we just try and do everthing while we are there. This year was know different. We go up around the 24th of July. There is a celebration, remembering when the pioneers came over. It is two packed days of fun events, a parade, carnival, rodoe, demolition derby, 5K run. It always feels like there is too much to do and never enough time! Jeff, my sister Jessica and her husband Jeff (we really like Jeffs in my family) totally did the 5K run this year. My Jeff totally did not have any training for it, I know its only like three miles but I didnt do it because I thought I would die because of the alttitude difference and I had been running in AZ daily. Did that stop Jeff?! NOPE. He did really good actually, he finished second and came home with a trophy! Maybe next year I will work up the courage to do it. Anyway thx Grandma Sowards and Uncle Kim for letting us invade your house yet again. We look forward to it every year!

So I bet you all think I only get on my blog to change the background a million times. We are way over due for an update sorry friends (that is if we still have any loyal followers!) I dont even know where to start...Our summer was really fun. I decided not to take a summer class which was really nice. We went camping with Jeffs family over the fourth. We went up to Heber. It was alot of fun I have never seen fireworks like those! And believe me when I tell you we were literally right under all the action! The weather was good, we even got rain whiched helped cool things down. We went hiking and found a some sort of snake and let me ask you this ladies...why is it that everytime boys fins a deadly dangerous creature they want to play with it??!! Makes no sense to me! We did the usual Beaty tradition and went shooting. That little guy is our nephew. He was so funny to watch, he would get so excited about the guns. He would point to the guns and say "pow, pow." Grandpa Beaty helped him shoot and he loved it. Here are some of my favorite pics.

Busy bees post with a surprise ending

Its been a while since the last post but I feel I (JEFF) need to update things from my point of view. Kelsey told you about our last trip to Utah, bla bla bla. I never did update on the Mountain Bike I built or house repairs. Current status on the bike, it works awesome! For those of you who don’t know about bikes, the standard diameter of a mountain bike tire is 26” where my tires have a diameter of 29”, thus allowing you a smoother ride clearing smaller rocks and sand with ease. What makes the bike even better is the full suspension aspect makes the ride that much more comfortable. To top it off, the bike weighs in at 27lbs, very light for a bike of that quality. Now for the house update. Many of you know we bought this house from a bank as it was a repo/foreclosure so it has a few quirks here and there. The first major issue we found was when we got the keys and went to the house just after we finalized everything. The back patio roof had blown off. I stuck a tarp up there to set us by till we get that first time homebuyer refund from taxes. New problem from that, tarps only have a 90 day life, which ended last week. So we came home from camping to find shreds of tarp all over the yard. Just had the back roof repaired today so no more issues there except for sagging drywall. Next quirk, went up in the attic to see why the house wasn't cooling down. Answer: could it possibly be caused by no insulation????!!!! Now I see why they couldn’t pay their mortgage payments, it was all going to their electrical bills. Now we have about 20” of that fluffy fiberglass stuff that you just want to take a bath in up there. Made a HUGE difference in house temperature and we get a tax credit on that for next years taxes. The next issue isnt building related but it happened right in the middle of the house repair whoopla. The washing machine decided to plug up because of a design flaw. Little did we know you weren't supposed to wash bathroom rugs in the washer. Stupid. Anywho, I researched what's out there and decided with my asthma, allergies and many other problems related to my lungs and nose that a steam washer would be the best option for replacement. Not to mention it powers it self and we get a $75 credit from SRP for upgrading. I’m not going to expound on the topic more but to say, WOW, can’t wait to use that baby! As you can see, Kelsey had a hand in picking it out.

Now for my last update, I have decided to get my nose operated on. Those that know me have seen me congested, like everyday! I sound like I’ve always got my nose plugged, can’t smell, breath through my mouth and other things. Well no more! I go into surgery the first week in August to get that stuff cleared out. Wish me luck!

Ok so its been forever since our last post...sorry. So my brother (Brandon) got married the last week of May!! So exciting, yup! The gal he married, Becky, (love her!) she is from Utah so that is where they got married. It was so much fun because Jeff and I got to take our mountain bikes up and stay a few extra days and play!! We drove up Wednsday night that, was the fastest I have ever gotten to Utah! (but Jeff said I did sleep most of the way up haha) The weather was probably my favorite part it was so NICE! The wedding was fun her family is really great. Jeff was in charge of taking the pictures, I always think he does a good job. So after the wedding stuff was over we headed back to Provo where we met up with Jeffs uncle and basically just played the rest of the time. Jeff was really anxious to mountain bike because this was the second time he got to ride his bike that he built! Jeff and Ian did some pretty insane dowhill trails, crazy boys. Jeff was pretty bruised and had some nice scrapes and cuts after. He even popped his tire, oops! Anyway it was alot of fun! Here are some of the pictures from the wedding. I love the ones of my brothers, Brandon hit the Clint and Oz in the stomach and Jeff caught like every moment, Love it!! lol

So we have had a few people ask us if we got our house. The rumors are true! After a year of battles between ridiculous requests and monotonous paper signing, its finally ours. We are putting some finishing touches before we move in but everything turned out great… except for the roof. We got quite a surprise to find out the back patio roof had blown off. I think its safe to say its time to replace it. I’ll put up pictures later today for everyone to see the inside.

Birthday

So, Kelseys birthday was on the third, and its now the 5th. I got her a limited edition mountain bike that just came in today. Limited edition meaning after april there will be no more. I got the last small that the company had in stock. As of now she doesnt know anything about it but when she gets home from work this is what she will see... Its the Breast cancer version of the bike and 25% of the price goes to the foundation. I figured thats a good way to spend that much money.

Hurricane!

So here is a nice getaway from all the house stuff which has been dragging on for a long time. I had been wanting to go on this mountain biking trip for about a month when my uncle told me about it. Last minute, and I mean extremely last minute, Kelsey decided she wanted to go. One of the girls in the group meeting us there said she could use her bike. So we had bikes all set and we were on our way to St George. When we got there we spent the night at a cheap hotel for St George. Got up the next morning, took pictures of the temple and headed off for Hurricane. The MTB trail we went to is called Gooseberry Mesa. For those of you who know Mountain biking, this trail is real similiar to Slickrock @ Moab. Its on a plateau real close to Hurricane, UT. Kelsey did pretty good for only MTB a few times. I think it was a bit too technical for her. Overall, it was a great trip. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that trail again in the future. Oh yea, I gave Kelsey a taste of Vegas since that was on the way to St George. She wants to go there again for my birthday.

Just wanted to share these pictures, we took them for my parents for Christmas. I think they turned out so cute, love them!! Jeff was the photographer, he is so talented and I really appriciate that he is always willing to take our pictures even though it is sometimes crazy trying to get everyone together. Anyway I am really pleased at how they turned out. Hope everyone had a great Christmas!!

So we have been through so many hoops trying to get into a house in this tough economy. We started back in April 2008 just browsing. By June we found a house we liked, put a bid in but got outbid by someone with cash. Started browsing again only to find a house we really liked just next door to the first one. Put an offer one the house, got approved by the mortgage underwriter for 190,000 only to have the offer sit on the table for 5 months until finally the house went into foreclosure. That's not all, we were the highest bidder the whole time asking them what they wanted. Think I'm done? Only getting started! The offer conditionally expired (if we wanted to withdraw) so we decided to continue our search. Kelsey was disgusted at this point and didnt want to look. I was determined to stop wasting money in an apartment. I found a house around brown & recker, great home. It had a pool, Jacuzzi, 3 bed 2 ba home in a great neighborhood. Go on a Saturday to look at it and bam! Already have an accepted offer. So I find a house down the street with an older gentleman trying his hardest to persuade us to buy his home. Kelsey wanted nothing to do with it, so it was pretty much just me. After a few days of bidding wars it went to high and I backed off. That made kels very happy. So we tried for another house that was off of Power & McKellips. It was bank owned and I actually went to school with the person that was selling the property. Did I mention that our realtor was my senior class president not to mention my age and I grew up with him? Anyway, there was another bid on the house so the seller said he would allow us to get the last say, meaning we would have the highest bid in the end. So what happens next? The bank decides to accept the lower offer? That's messed up I tell you!! So, keep on trudging is the advice I give Kelsey, be persistent and we will reap the rewards. Next we find a house that is down the street from our apartment in the Val Vista Lakes area. It was a nice 2 story house ready to move in. Shoulda been a shoe-in. Should have!!! The bank accepts our offer (another bank owned) and takes our 2,500 earnest money for a deposit. What happens next just makes things even worse. The bank decides they dont want to loan us any money. They drag us around for weeks to months because they "need more paperwork". For heaven sakes, they know how many times I got pizza for the last 2 years!!! What more paperwork do you need? So we pretty much get the "advice" to wait for two years before applying for another mortgage. I dont think so! Bag That! So as a last ditch effort for this year, our realtor has a guy in his same building renting that can do quick mortgages. So we are currently with him working on the second house we put an offer on. Hopefully we will/can close end of this week or beginning of next (around the 15th of Dec). Stupid housing market. Can't complain though, we are getting a smokin deal on a house around the corner from Mountain View. I spent a few hours last night installing a sink and stove because the prior owners that got foreclosed on took all the cabinet doors in the kitchen as well as all the switches, light bulbs, stove, outlets, and... I think thats it. So if we get the house I'll let you know after we sign the papers and have the keys.

Updates and Visiting...

Well just a few updates to our life. The last house we thought we had fell through. Minor loan issues, no thanks to the current market conditions. We're working on a closer house by mountain view that will hopefully close before christmas. Jeff(me) is pretty busy between work and my work hobby. Work for me is a project manager for a Damage Restoration company (see earlier posts). Right now we are so busy cant keep our heads on straight. As for the work hobby, thanks to obama, the schedule there is about the same. So if you want an assult rifle, better not waste any time and go get one. That is if you can find one for sale. haha. Good thing Kelsey already has her pink one. Kelsey's sister came in town from Denver for a few days and wanted to take pictures. Here is a few...

Happiness

Well i am a few days late...but Jeff and I celebrated our second anniversary this past week. I can't believe it has already been two years. It has been the best ever. Jeff is seriously the best husband and I can't even begin to imagine life without him! He is the most patient and understanding guy ever and he is always HAPPY. He can always make me smile. So we really did not do anyhting that exciting since our anniversary fell on a week day, we just went out to eat and then for a bike ride. At the moment we are really into riding bikes. Well Jeff has always been into biking and has introduced me to it. It really is alot of fun and relaxing especially since the nights are starting to cool off. So Jeff got me the greatest present ever. Lion king tickets!! Like to go see the Broadway show!(I got him the movie Ironman ya kinda lame gift compared to what he got me lol) I have seen it before but I am so excited to go with Jeff this time! So thx Jeffers love ya much!!

They both shoot! We had originally planned on going shooting Saturday morning. Just casual with friends (all but Ryan and Amy bailed). That's ok, more ammo for us, besides, who gets to shoot a pink gun? Even better, a pink assault rifle! Yep be jealous girls!! Anywho, it was filled with fun, shooting golf balls, & being attacked by killer grasshoppers... use your imagination. So later in the day, we went with my family (Jeff) paint balling. Got some pictures with us getting geared up for battle but no afters, except for a nice welt on Kelsey's leg. The picture we took of it doesn't give it justice. The second to last game I nailed Kelsey in the head. FYI - for you couples that like to argue, its a good way to settle things out physically. Well, thats it for now. Enjoy the pictures

Memorial Day 2008

So Memorial Day was great and relaxing. Kelsey has yet to take over this blog thing and make it, in her words, cute. I think it was a win win situation for the both of us. Kelsey got to be with her niece and nephews and I got to perfect usage of my awesome camera (see pictures). Now, there is a house we are trying to get and for security reasons I will not disclose the location of it for fear of someone else buying the house before us!!!! But it’s a decent size house (4 bed 3 bathroom, 10,000 SF lot) near work for both of us. Now, if only the mortgage company can hurry with our paperwork! Looking forward to some lake time this summer since its been years on a nice boat or jet ski.

First blog for the Beatys

Well here we are. Made it to the world of blogging. We enjoyed keeping up with so many of our friends this way so we decided to do the same thing. Kelsey will kill me for starting this thing up without her but she'll live. She wanted it to look all cute so I'll let her make it pretty another day when she doesn't have work and I do. Currently Kels and I are baby-less, for now. I work for a General contracting company (Water Wind & Fire)wearing many hats. The title that's printed on our business cards is project manager. I'm also the Office manager, computer technician, company electrician, facility manager, bla bla bla. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and don't see a change in the future, other than the job titles that is.
